Desk Goblin

The break reminder that gets harder to ignore.

Desk Goblin lives in your Mac’s menu bar and suggests tiny movement breaks. Work straight through them and a small creature comes looking for you.

$12.99 $4.99 Launch price

Less than a coffee — and unlike the coffee, it makes you get up. One-time purchase, no subscription, no account.

Requires macOS 14 or later · 20 exercises · Runs on your Mac

See what happens when you ignore it.

One reminder, ignored all the way to the end.

16 seconds, no sound. An animation of the real character — not a screen capture.

How it works

01

Pick your routine.

Every 30, 45 or 60 minutes, inside the hours you actually work.

02

Keep working.

A small card suggests one tiny thing. Ten squats. A shoulder stretch. Standing up like a person.

03

Ignore it at your own risk.

Keep typing and the goblin comes out to find you. The longer you hold out, the harder it is to ignore.

It starts small.

How it ends is mostly up to you.

A tiny goblin appears at the edge of the screen

“hey.”

15s

The goblin walking across the desktop

“still working?”

30s

A larger, concerned goblin

“desk human.”

45s

An unimpressed goblin, larger still

“we talked about this.”

60s

The goblin filling the screen

“Okay. You leave me no choice.”

80s

Those are seconds of continued typing, not wall clock. Step away and it stops climbing — the break already happened.

What you get

Tiny movement breaks

Twenty exercises, none over a minute, none needing equipment.

Chill, Nudge or Menace

Decide how far it may go. Chill stays in the notification; Menace uses the whole ladder.

Quiet during calls

While your mic is live it sits down and saves the reminder for later.

Your hours, your pace

Set your working hours and weekdays. Outside them the goblin sleeps.

Pause whenever

Thirty minutes, an hour, or until tomorrow. No argument.

Lives in the menu bar

No Dock icon, no window to close. One glyph that changes as the day goes.

The goblin wearing small headphones

Calls are sacred.

While your microphone is in use, everything dramatic is off. No walking, no growing, no takeover — just a small note that the reminder is waiting.

  • Never records audio.
  • Never listens to your conversation.
  • Has no microphone permission at all — it never asks for one.
  • Checks one thing: whether an audio input device is running. That is the same signal behind the orange dot in your menu bar.

Questions

Is this a subscription?

No. Desk Goblin is a one-time purchase. You pay once and keep the app.

Why is it $4.99?

Desk Goblin’s standard price is $12.99. The $4.99 is an introductory launch offer — the same app, not a cut-down version, and not a trial.

What is the launch price?

The standard price is $12.99. Desk Goblin is $4.99 right now as an introductory launch offer. There is no countdown on this page because there is no deadline to report — when the launch period ends, this page will simply show the new price. Whatever you pay today, you pay once.

What happens after I buy it?

Lemon Squeezy takes the payment and emails you a receipt with your licence key. That email also links to the download. You install Desk Goblin, open it, paste the key once, and that’s the last time licensing comes up.

Can I use it on more than one Mac?

One at a time. A licence activates a single Mac, and it moves with you: open Settings › License › Deactivate this Mac on the old machine to free the slot, then paste the same key on the new one. Buying a new Mac doesn’t mean buying the app again.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no password and no profile. After buying you get a licence key by email and paste it into the app once.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Reminders, exercises, the schedule and the goblin all run on your Mac with no network at all. The one exception is the licence check when you first activate.

Does it listen to my meetings?

No, and it can’t. Desk Goblin has no microphone permission — it never asks for one, and it never appears in System Settings under Privacy & Security › Microphone. To know when to stay quiet it reads a single piece of device state from macOS: whether an audio input device is currently running. There is no audio buffer anywhere in the app, so nothing is recorded, retained or transcribed.

What if I don’t want a goblin covering my screen?

Set it to Chill and it never leaves the reminder card — no desktop goblin, ever. Nudge (the default) lets it wander onto your desktop and get moderately bigger, but never take over. Menace allows the full ladder. Every stage can be dismissed instantly, and Escape always works.

Can I pause it?

Yes — thirty minutes, an hour, or until tomorrow, from the menu bar. While paused, nothing appears at all.

Which Macs are supported?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on both Apple silicon and Intel.

What if I don’t like it?

Email within 30 days and you get your money back. No form, no questions.
